UL 1083

Household Electric Skillets and Frying-Type Appliances

This Standard outlines safety requirements for indoor household skillet and frying-type appliances such as griddles, corn poppers, deep fryers, oil fondues, tempuras, waffle makers, sandwich makers and contact grills.

It requires short, detachable power-supply cords on deep fryers to help in preventing tripping incidents and tip-overs. The length requirement helps to minimize tripping incidents, and the detachable design is intended to disengage if a cord is accidentally pulled, which can help to keep a unit from tipping over.
